Ice Cream Recipe
For those of you that want to re-create the ice cream treat we had at the last meeting, here is the recipe! Feel free to modify it and come up with your own gourmet specialty! If you do, please be sure to comment below with your new recipe so we all can try it. If you take pictures of your results, please send them to the hc4H list and we’ll post them here!
1 cup milk
1/2 cup whole cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup sugar
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and stir together well until the sugar is dissolved. Pour mixture into a sandwich sized zip-lock-style baggie.Make sure the seal is well sealed.
Place ice cubes with liberal amounts of salt stirred in another bowl and mix well. This lowers the freezing temperature of the ice and allows the ice cream to solidify quickly. We used between a half a box to a whole 1 pound box of ordinary table salt to a bag (about 8 pounds) of ice.
Fill a gallon size baggie half full with the ice. Place the ice cream mixture baggie on top of the ice and fill the remaining bag full of ice. Seal closed the outside bag and gently toss for approximately 10 minutes until the inner ice cream baggie becomes firm and frozen. You might want to wrap it with a towel, as it does become very cold! Carefully remove the inside baggie from the outside baggie when it has reached the firmness you desire, and your treat is ready to enjoy.
